The SESAR Horizon 2020 Drones European AIM Study Project (DREAMS) is one of the projects of the SESAR RPAS exploratory research call aimed at realizing the SESAR U-space Blueprint to address important research questions impacting the operation of drones or unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) and remotely piloted aircraft systems (RPAS). U-space is the European Commission’s vision to enable complex drone operations with a high degree of automation to take place in all types of operational environments, including urban areas.
The DREAMS project is focused on the Drone information management area. Information is a key component of air traffic management and, therefore a complete set of aviation information has been developed in the past to support manned aviation. This existing aviation information must be tailored to the specific needs of UAS operators and address the aeronautical information sharing requirements coming from several stakeholders involved in drone operations such as other airspaces users, service providers, air traffic managers and aviation authorities.
To better understand the current and future aviation information needs of pilots and drone operators DREAMS is conducting an anonymous survey in its website to:
- Identify user needs and target scenarios;
- Understand which information is perceived among users as “critical” to unlock new potential BVLOS scenarios or “nice to know” to enhance the efficiency of their flight operations;
- Assess which is the minimum data set of unmanned aeronautical information needed to develop the U-space concept;
- Enquire about the best way to present or integrate this information on RPAS operator’s equipment;
Participation in the survey provides an opportunity to pilots and drone operators to contribute their experience and knowledge to define U-space, the future European System for Done Management System in a more integrated, safe and cost-effective way.
The completion of the online survey should not take more than five minutes.
