EuroUSC will be present on the Radius demonstration flights next week

July 10, 2024

The project will carry out a series of test flights to show the technology and prove that the use of drones is an important advance for railway safety.

Radius, the European project in which EuroUSC participates, has been working to design, develop, test and demonstrate a complete monitoring and maintenance system using unmanned aerial systems in the railway industry.

Radius will hold a demonstration flight campaign in Portugal bringing together the project partners on the 17th and 18th July. The tests will be conducted in the vicinity of the Ourique railway station in the Alentejo region.

EuroUSC will be present with the role of recording video and pictures to illustrate the test flights for the communication and dissemination of the project.

The aim is to showcase the complete solution integrating the different components of the Radius solution developed since the start of the project.

Wednesday 18 will bring together the bulk of the activities. The day will begin with a presentation of the programme of activities and the goals of the flights to be carried out during the day, as well as a review of the achievements made.

To demonstrate these advances, Radius will carry out a series of flights involving the use cases of the technology to monitor the correct functioning of railway infrastructures using drones. These use cases include:

  • Level crossings
  • Lineside cabinets
  • Light signals
  • Switches

The goal is to show that the use of drones is a fundamental advance in optimising railway controls, improving operation times while increasing safety and reducing costs.
